Project Materials Engineer 

Job Description: 

Duncan, SC Client in the high voltage power equipment market is hiring a hands-on product and process development engineer for non-metallic electrical insulation product applications.  

 

Skills, Experience, and Educational Requirements:   

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Materials, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering. 
  • 3+ years of working experience in non-metallic product applications preferred.
  • Strong communication skills (written & verbal). 
  • Demonstrated expertise in manufacturing & continuous improvement. 
  • Attention to detail

 

Description of Job Activities:  

  • Collaboration with vendors, customers, and sales team to resolve product and process problems.  
  • This position leads the hands-on product development and engineering project execution from laboratory testing and prototyping to product manufacturing trials ensuring compliance with ISO 9001:2015 standards and testing standards. 
  • This role involves product verification through validation from hands-on testing products with analytical lab equipment to product validation during manufacturing trials.  
  • Candidates will also help in planning future capital equipment purchases with the engineering team and leading equipment process improvements on the production floor.  
  • Candidates should have a willingness to travel 10-20% of time. 
  • This role designs laboratory testing methods critical to product development and quality for electrical insulation. Some wet chemistry with epoxy, phenolic, and polyester resins coating papers, films, fabrics, and laminates for experimentation will be a necessary part of product development.  
  • Candidates should have the ability to operate analytical equipment such as a DMA, DSC, TGA, FTIR, and Rheology used for dielectric materials and resins.  
  • Creating small sample trials of flexible laminates of paper, fabrics, and films, while testing mica insulating laminates for strength and bonding performance.  
  • Strong written, verbal, and communications skills are necessary for successful execution.
