Our client in Landrum has been in business for nearly 30 years and has continued to grow over the years. They are seeking a motivated individual to join their team as a Die Maintenance Technician & Die Runner as the business continues to grow. The right candidate will report to Management and will collaborate with all departments within the company. This position will maintain and repair dies in the tool and die department with the experience of surface grinding various metals. Expectations will require this role to take on other tasks as they arise from management. Multi-tasking, strong communication, and organizational skills are critical for success in this role.  This role requires someone to be curious about potential problems, investigating them to determine their root cause and bring solutions to the management, engineering, scheduling team, and operators. This role requires someone comfortable with GD&T interpretation, measuring tools, optical measuring equipment, reading tool drawings, and asking key questions to provide solutions to die quality concerns.

Candidates will be measured on the following areas of Skill and Knowledge:

  1. This role requires a person to have some knowledge of a tool and die maker yet interested in working in a die maintenance department.
  2. It requires a very highly motivated person who is energetic and comfortable in a fast-paced environment. They should have a sense of urgency to move to the next challenge or task in the die department.
  3. Manual surface grinding skills are important using mostly diamond wheels for carbide steel and sand wheels for tool steels such as D2 periodically.
  4. This role requires the knowledge and experience of using tool room measuring devices. These include micrometers, calipers, indicators, depth gauges, and some optical comparators.
  5. This role requires a high level of mechanical comprehension.
  6. The person should be independent, confident, and have troubleshooting skills.
  7. Experience in high-speed stamping press applications is preferred.
  8. This position also covers a die runner role transporting dies to the presses, performing troubleshooting at the press, and transporting the die back to the die department if there are issues or corrections needed. This person will be directly involved at the stamping floor to ensure die quality requirements are met.
  9. Strong collaboration skills are important with the ability to work in a team’s environment.
  10. Independent forward thinking is necessary to anticipate future results.
  11. Good questioning, listening, and discussion skills without feeling the need to hold information from other workers are necessary.
  12. Natural preference to create an organized, neat, and clean work environment at workstations.
  13. This role requires the candidate to be competent working with a computer and computer software and have good math skills.
  14. The candidate needs to be flexible and calm about scheduling conflicts and priorities as variables change in the scheduling area.
  15. The candidate must be committed to continuous improvement for the die department.
  16. This role requires someone comfortable with GD&T interpretation both General and Geometric.
