Our client, Legacy Early College ("Legacy") is seeking a highly competent Director of Finance professional who will report directly to the  Executive Director of Legacy Early College. The candidate will be able to implement new systems and procedures in the accounting function. The position is full-time (40 hours per week, Monday - Friday).

Legacy Early College is a public charter school located in Greenville, SC West End. Today there are 1700 Scholars, and 800 of those are bussed to and from their homes. Most of the Legacy scholars are from poverty situations.

Legacy's education model combines academic excellence, nutrition, and fitness. Legacy is a school of mastery, serves only nutritious meals and is the only public school in SC that provides daily PE for every scholar. Scholars are also taught core social, relationship, and emotional skills.

The culture is one of high standards and there is an expectation that all faculty and staff focus their attention on what each and every student needs to learn and be successful. All students are created equal in that there is an expectation that every student who attends Legacy will have every possible opportunity to succeed. This requires that faculty and staff know the students and know what their learning needs are.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing the financial operations of the organization and making decisions based on the organization ‘s financial stability
  • Monitoring cash flow, meeting with the CEO to discuss the best practices for organization finances
  • Developing strategic plans to improve the organization’s financial health
  • Executing the organization’s financial strategy
  • Developing plans for growth while also controlling expenditure
  • Assisting the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to develop financial plans
  • Managing accounting procedures/processes
  • Setting up systems/processes and identifying deficiencies
  • Supervising AR/AP/GL/ payroll and various student activity reports
  • Responsible for monthly formal reporting as well as annual budget preparation.
  • Works with CPA firm to complete audit and 990m tax returns
  • Presents monthly financials to Board and Finance Committee
  • Supervision of various Federal, State and other funding sources

Experience and Education Required:

  • Some experience in a school setting a plus and non-profit accounting desired
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or other field closely related to functional responsibilities
  • Knowledge of general accounting principles and reporting requirements, experience in School, Governmental and/or Not-For-Profit accounting a plus
  • Highly Proficient in all Microsoft Office products, including Excel Pivot Tables, Adobe Acrobat, as well as general accounting software; experience with intact and Kronos/UKG and payroll a plus
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills; high degree of accuracy, attention to detail and confidentiality
  • Self-disciplined and well-motivated; able to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work as an effective team and supervise team members
  • Excellent organization, time management and planning skills
  • Helpful certifications include CFA and/or CPA ( a plus but not required)
  • Minimum 10 years+ experience in accounting
  • Supervisory experience, 5-8 years

Work Schedule/Holidays:

This position will operate on the centralized Legacy Early College central office calendar, on the 240-day schedule with all holidays week of 4th and Christmas and Spring break off.
