Headquartered in Cypress, California (where this position is located), the Director will manage four (4) senior level Regional Sales Managers, covering the entire USA.


Nitto Tires  —  a global firm with strong values and great people — seeks an experienced, motivated, results-oriented candidate, who has a minimum of 10 years sales and management experience in the tire industry.  Candidates will be considered based on demonstrated experience, history of success, and can be currently living anywhere, but will be required to relocate to Cypress, CA.  Nitto Tires will provide relocation.


Job Description:
Smart Work | Network, Inc. has been retained by Nitto Tires to source high performing candidates who have a passion for and experience with the “enthusiasts” tire market, for the position of Director of Sales for Nitto Tires, a strong leader as a Tier 2 manufacturer of passenger, light truck and competition tires.  The Director of Sales manages a division staffed with Regional Sales Managers and is responsible for attaining division and individual sales (units and dollars) goals.  The Director of Sales is accountable for developing and maintaining professional relationships with existing and prospective dealers, as well as supervising, coaching and mentoring all Regional Sales Managers.  

The right candidate will have experience working with both wholesale tire distributors and their many retail operations around the US.

In addition, the Director of Sales is expected to attain and present meaningful and timely market and competitor intelligence to facilitate sales/marketing strategies and executive decision making. The position researches and analyzes key dealer/competitor activities, marketing initiatives, business results, and organizational activities to provide sound strategic recommendations to senior management.  

The Director of Sales has a direct, straightforward reporting relationship: a solid line to the Nitto Vice President of Sales who reports directly to the President of Nitto Tires.

This is a “Road Warrior” role, and travel is necessary to cover adequately the entire USA.  Travel 50-75% of time initially and 50% on a regular basis.

The right candidate will have a high degree of personal motivation, good leadership capability, a deep understanding of high level dealer sales relationships, and a strong personal work ethic. The right candidate will have demonstrated success in managing tire sales relationships; communicating direction and priorities; managing, developing and leading people (both employees and customers); ensuring program development and execution; and resolving issues in a timely, cooperative manner.

Key Experience for Candidate Consideration10 Plus Years of Experience in the  Tire Industry, with the following criteria:

Must-have Criteria:

  • Sales, Sales Management, Leadership, Coaching and Mentoring
  • Experience selling to both Wholesale Customers and retail customers
  • Background and Interest in the “enthusiasts” side of the tire industry

Highly Desired Criteria:

  • Tire Manufacturer Experience
  • Corporate Experience with Tire Wholesale Distributors

Education:  Bachelor’s Degree or higher preferred

Geography:   Director of Sales must work from Corporate Headquarters in Cypress, California

Travel Requirements:

  • Overnight travel is estimated at 75% starting out, and 50% on a sustained basis
