Smart Work | Network, Inc., a retained search firm, is seeking candidates  for our client,  America’s Warrior Partnership, headquartered in Augusta, GA, for the position titled Development Associate. (Formerly posted as Development Manager)

As the Development Associate, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Work with a nationally recognized best-practice organization with a primary mission of supporting Veterans

  • Assist with all aspects of AWP’s fundraising and donor-development from planning though execution, including individual solicitations, corporate sponsorships, grants, in-kind donations, charitable events, and other opportunities

  • Foster a culture of philanthropy within America’s Warrior Partnership, ensuring that everyone in the organization understands and values donors and what drives them to support causes they care about

  • Work in an entrepreneurial environment with a highly motivated team of professionals who continuously demonstrate a passion for helping Warrior Communities become self-sustaining in service to our Veterans upon their transition from active military service

Key Job Responsibilities  

  • Online fundraising: assist with development of annual campaign plan; implement annual campaign plan, craft appeals, and lead online advocacy and list growth efforts

  • Direct mail: develop timeline, craft solicitation letters, make follow-up calls, and acknowledge gifts

  • Special events: plan and implement fundraising and donor cultivation events, help with sponsor recruitment, work with volunteer host committees, coordinate event promotion, materials and onsite event management

  • Major donor program: research donors and identify prospects, assist with donor evaluation, donor cultivation and development of donor materials

  • Daily operational functions: manage database, keep accurate records and track development results in database and development files, provide adequate and appropriate acknowledgement and recognition for donors, execute processes to foster loyalty and increase donor retention

  • Work collaboratively with the Development and Marketing team to strengthen relationships with supporters; set goals and objectives to ensure steady, measurable progress in awareness, fundraising, advocacy, programs, and services; and meet goals including:
    • Fundraising goals

    • AWP and its programs and accomplishments have high, positive visibility nationally and in the regions it serves

    • Fundraising efforts are coordinated with national, regional, and local partners

    • All Development and Fundraising activities are completed on time, within budget, and at high levels of quality

Success in this role is measured on:

  • Diversifying our funding base and revenue streams to be financially independent and sustainable

  • Implementing an individual giving program that incorporates a variety of campaigns (i.e., direct mail, social media, pledge, person-to-person, etc.)

  • Integrating a strong giving presence on website and social media

  • Fostering and formalizing relationships with corporations and foundations in order to realize funding and engagement opportunities

  • Supporting the creation of a national fundraising event that becomes synonymous with Warrior and is hosted in a variety of communities

Required (Must-Have) Experience:

  • Demonstrated a minimum of 2 years of success in non-profit Development/Fundraising, online campaigns, and/or event planning

  • Proven success in donor analysis, donor development, relationship management, solicitation design, campaign execution, grant writing, or grant management

  • Veteran or spouse of military Veteran (preferred, not required)

  • Relevant undergraduate or graduate degree or equivalent experience in the following:  Marketing, Fundraising, Grantsmanship, Nonprofit Management, or Business Administration

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining quality and timeliness

  • Shown to be capable of working effectively and productively with minimal supervision

  • Known to be results-driven and consistently successful in meeting assigned deadlines

  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills and strong oral and written communication skills

  • Proven organizational skills, with strong attention to detail

  • Demonstrated success in maintaining confidentiality when dealing with private or sensitive information

Required Skills/Knowledge/Ability

  • Knowledge of best practices in nonprofit development and fundraising

  • Highly proficient in writing and editing, especially marketing and persuasive communication

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Proficient with donor-management software (e.g., Salesforce, RaisersEdge)

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Consistently meets assigned deadlines

  • Forecasts resource needs accurately to support successful project completion

  • Communicates effectively with internal and external constituencies using a variety of devices and methods (phone, email, video conferencing, etc.)

  • Works productively with a minimal amount of supervision

  • Generates original ideas and uses creativity to complete assigned tasks and solve problems

Physical/Conditional Requirements: (Travel, etc.)

  • Capable of nationwide travel 20-30% of the time (air, bus, train and automobile)

  • Willing and able to perform in a flexible work schedule, 50 to 60 hours per week occasionally

  • Willing and able to attend professional, civic and social events afterhours on occasion
