Smart Work | Network, Inc., a retained search firm, is seeking candidates  for our client, America’s Warrior Partnership, headquartered in Augusta, GA, for the position titled Communications and Marketing Manager.

As the Communications and Marketing Manager, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Work with a nationally recognized best-practice organization with a primary mission of supporting Veterans
  • Create and deliver communications of all types, including mass media, social media, marketing, and public relations to share the message of America's Warrior Partnership with all of its many constituencies around the country
  • Ensure that messages for America's Warrior Partnership and its community partners are consistent and in accordance with branding and guidance of funders
  • Serve our country by helping local communities serve their own citizen Veterans, who have multiple diverse needs

Summary Job Responsibility:   

The Communications and Marketing Manager is responsible for all aspects of the AWP’s communication planning and execution. This individual ensures that AWP’s programs and accomplishments have high, positive visibility nationally and in the communities it serves. The Communications and Marketing Manager makes sure that every marketing and communication effort targets the appropriate audiences in the most effective way possible, and implements metrics to demonstrate the success of those efforts.

In addition to serving as the chief media contact and managing national and community relations, this individual has a wide array of hands-on writing and design responsibilities. This individual is expected to connect with all constituencies regularly via print, website, social media, and broadcast media.

This is a full-time position with no direct supervisory responsibility; however, the Communications and Marketing Manager will be called on to oversee relationships with outsource providers and volunteers.

Success in this role is measured on:

  • The approved America’s Warrior Partnership message is delivered in an accurate and timely manner to internal and external audiences
  • The message of America's Warrior Partnership is effectively delivered via multiple channels, carefully matching channel to the audience and purpose for each message
  • The brand of America's Warrior Partnership is protected, developed, and strengthened
  • Both traditional expressions and innovation/pursuit of new platforms occur within the scope of media best practices
  • Strong relationships and effective communication are built and maintained with media, vendors, collaborating partners, volunteers, colleagues, and coworkers

Required (Must-Have) Experience:

  • Demonstrated 3-5 years of success, ideally with a nonprofit organization, in a Communications or Marketing role responsible for creating robust Communications plans and executing them on time, within budget, and at a high level of quality
  • Proven success in developing concepts, writing, designing, and delivering communication and marketing materials of all types, including collateral and specialties, traditional print media, and traditional broadcast media
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in managing content marketing and social media programs, to include blogs, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and others as appropriate to AWP’s audiences and their needs

Nice-to-Have Experience:

  • Veteran or Spouse of Military veteran
  • Relevant undergraduate or graduate degree or equivalent experience in the following: Mass Communications, Marketing, Graphic Design, or Business with an emphasis in Marketing and Communications
  • Involvement/interest/experience in community outreach programs (even as a volunteer)
  • Project management education and experience

Required Skills/Knowledge/Ability

  • Knowledge of best practices in graphic design for print and web
  • Knowledge of best practices in website and social media implementation
  • High level of proficiency in writing and editing
  • High level of proficiency using Mac computer systems and software
  • High level of proficiency in Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator,  and WordPress
  • Medium level of proficiency in HTML, SEO, SEM, basic website/IT skills related to domains and servers
  • Medium level of proficiency in graphic design
  • Medium level proficiency using Microsoft Office suite software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to consistently meet assigned deadlines
  • Ability to forecast resource needs to support successful project completion
  • Ability to communicate with internal and external constituencies using a variety of devices and methods (phone, email, video conferencing, etc.)
  • Ability to work effectively and productively with a minimal amount of supervision
  • Ability to generate original ideas and use creativity to complete assigned tasks and solve problems

 Physical/Conditional Requirements: (Travel, etc.)

  • Capable of nationwide travel 20-30% of the time (air, bus, train and automobile)
  • Willing and able to perform in a flexible work schedule, 50 to 60 hours per week occasionally
  • Willing and able to attend professional, civic and social events afterhours on occasion
