Smart Work | Network, Inc., a retained search firm located in Greenville, SC, is seeking candidates for our client, America’s Warrior Partnership, headquartered in Augusta, GA, for the position titled Community Manager – Liaison to Veteran-Centric  Communities.

America’s Warrior Partnership (AWP) is a 501-C3 non-profit organization whose mission it is to partner with "Warrior-centric" communities by providing a proven model, mentorship, and resources in order to advance comprehensive and holistic Warrior care that will promote the overall well-being of Warriors, their families and their communities.  http://youtu.be/ZFOcio1Unl0 

As the Community Manager, working directly with Veteran-Centric Communities that have been funded by America’s Warrior Partnership, you will have an opportunity to:

  1. Work with a nationally recognized best-practice organization with a primary mission of supporting Veterans
  2. Be the main liaison with local Program Directors to help in the building of Community programs to support Veterans,  in compliance with the America's Warrior Partnership grant and program model
  3. Serve our country by helping local communities serve their own citizen Veterans, who have a multiplicity and diversity of needs  
  4. Work with a highly motivated team of professionals in an entrepreneurial environment who continuously demonstrate a passion for helping Warrior Communities become self-sustaining in service to our Veterans upon their transition from active military service 

Summary Job Description:

The Community Manager serves as a primary liaison between assigned community group(s) and America’s Warrior Partnership. The Community Manager acts as a consultant for designated communities and is responsible for the management and coordination of the Community Integration grant and the fulfillment of the mission to partner with Veteran-centric communities by providing a proven model, mentorship, and resources in order to advance comprehensive and holistic Veteran care that will promote the overall well-being of Veterans, service members, and their communities

About AWP:

America's Warrior Partnership is growing the number of its supported communities almost four-fold in the next 10 months. To support this growth, they must recruit a self-reliant Leader/Manager who possesses a similarly strong passion for both the AWP mission and helping nurture and develop Warrior-Centric communities around the nation.   This individual will be the key AWP representative working with selected community groups for a one to three year period to mentor, guide and coach the local community staff and volunteers.

Because AWP’s goal is to establish effective community programs and ensure communities are self-sustaining, the main focus in this position is to support Warrior-Centric communities as they implement the holistic service model and Four Step Plan to make progress toward the grant metrics required by the AWP Grant.   Proactive assistance is given to these communities through monitoring their adherence to the grant metrics, and also mentoring and teaching best practices, based on the AWP successful community model.    Process thinking and continuous improvement models would provide a helpful perspective in coaching these communities.

 

Specific Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Empower community group(s) to coordinate local programs and services with other local organizations, groups and sub-grantees
  • Train designated community group(s) to ensure a holistic approach using the AWP Model and “Four Step Plan: Connect, Educate, Advocate, Collaborate” to support Warriors (Veterans and service members), families, and community members
  • Engage in a variety of projects requiring independent judgment and initiative related to consultation, coordination and leadership within designated communities
  • Collaborate with other Community Managers to assist communities to identify available resources and programs, determine gaps in services, and achieve program goals 
  • Inform community group(s) of regional and national activities and resources
  • Conduct weekly monitoring of program deliverables and successes or challenges related to program deliverables with each assigned community group
  • Conduct review of community group monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to ensure programs are on target for meeting both program and compliance goals 
  • Share best-practices learned from work with community group(s) in order to strengthen and build partnerships with other local organizations to better serve Warriors
  • Promote, advocate, articulate and represent the AWP Model of community integration through outreach to agencies, organizations, Warriors, and the general public
  • Facilitate and maintain partnership with community group(s) and third party partners linked through America’s Warrior Partnership

 

Required (Must Have) Experience:

  • Must live in the Greater Central Savannah River area (near Augusta, GA)
  • Demonstrated through previous examples, a Passion and Empathy for Veterans and the mission of America's Warrior Partnership
  • Be able to travel 70% of the time from home base
  • Have proof of a current driver’s license and minimum state auto liability insurance
  • Relevant undergraduate or graduate degree or equivalent experience in the following: (Social Science, Psychology, Communications, Business Management – where Leadership and Management of organizational dynamics were major components)
  • Some experience working or volunteering in social services agency or other programs that provide specific volunteer services to a particular population

 

Other Desired Capabilities and Experience

  • Previous Military/Veteran or spouse/family member of Veteran
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong interpersonal skills resulting in an excellent rapport with people
  • Relatively high comfort-with-conflict (Need to influence without authority)
  • Ability to network and build partnerships
  • Process/Project and Program Management is a plus
  • Intermediate use of Microsoft Office Suite

Physical/Conditional Requirements: (Travel, etc.)

  • Capable of nationwide travel 70% of the time (air, bus, train and automobile)
  • Capability and willingness to perform in a flexible work schedule, 50 to 60 hours per week occasionally
  • Capability and willingness to attend professional, civic and social events afterhours on occasion
