The Human Resources Director leads the Human Resource department and all its efforts in developing and executing all HR Strategies to support organizational objectives.  The Director will be responsible for the Human Resource goals and initiatives, including designing, administering, and executing all Human Resources functions including: recruiting, performance management, compensation, benefits, employee relations, training and corporate culture. The HR Director is also a primary catalyst of corporate culture, driving the root elements of a Top Workplace.   You will manage a staff of two for a 100+ person organization?

Specific duties of the Human Resources Director are: 

Benefits Management

  • Lead administrator. Vet options, manage enrollment & changes, maintain relationships with providers and address employee questions and coverage problems. Complete required reporting

Employment compliance

  • Ensure compliance with Harassment training
  • Comply with federal, state and local requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipate legislation, enforce adherence to requirements and advise management when changes are needed. Complete required reporting
  • Coordinate leaves of absence including assisting employees with applications, filing claims, approving time, daily administration, reasonable accommodations, maintaining legal records, and developing policies and procedures

Skills development and employee performance assessment

  • Design and administer the annual performance review process
  • Assist employees and managers with addressing, documenting and resolving performance issues
  • Assess, recommend and/or develop appropriate training programs to enhance skills and knowledge. Identify internal resources for training as well as evaluate/recommend external training resources
  • Develop the collective skills and human resources of the organization to effectively compete in the marketplace

Recruitment

  • Coordinate the recruitment process including advertising, resume review, phone screens, interviews, applicable assessments and reference checks
  • Develop and implement new employee orientation and onboarding program.  Include proper agreements (Confidentiality, employment agreement, etc.)  Assure collection of paperwork at time of hire.  Keep managers on task with introductory evaluations

Compensation

  • Complete reporting, maintain the HRIS database by processing all changes and updates
  • Backup administrator for Payroll
  • Research, recommend and model annual cost of living adjustments
  • Advise on the compensation program. Make comp recommendations for external candidates and internal transfers, administration of annual salary reviews, bonus and incentive plans, maintain wage structure to ensure competitiveness in the market and internal equity

Organizational and culture development, management advisor

  • Provide advice and counsel to management and supervisors regarding personnel practices & policies
  • Maintain organizational charts, work with management to identify new positions, promotions, re-assignments based on business needs
  • Provide support and counsel to managers regarding hiring, terminations and discipline
  • Maintain and coordinate employee engagement, cultural enrichment and recognition activities
  • Research industry employment trends, develop and refine company policy. Maintain employee handbook

Employee relations

  • Respond to employee relation issues such as employee complaints, harassment allegations, and civil rights complaints
  • Investigate situations and recommend to management the appropriate course of action

Personal Development

  • Develop HR expertise and knowledge by participating in conferences, educational opportunities, professional networks and organizations
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Develop the collective skills and human resources of the organization to effectively compete in the marketplace 

Technical Skills/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • PHR or SPHR designation preferred
  • 8+ years of HR experience, 5+ years of HR management experience
  • Knowledge of employment law, including California law, benefits administration, and recruitment tools
