Vice-President, Finance/Controller


Our client, a fast-growth Service, Warehousing, Transportation & Logistics firm in Spartanburg, SC is seeking an accomplished financial professional (VP/Director of Finance) who has preferably had experience in an both an entrepreneurial and corporate setting.   The right candidate will have experience in manufacturing or other industrial industries, with a strong focus on financial analysis and business intelligence.    Some experience in private equity is desired.   A Bachelor's Degree is required; a Masters Degree and/or CPA or CMA are desired.  Competitive Salary, Benefits, and Bonus for the right person.




Position Summary:

The VP, Finance/Controller is responsible for building, coaching and inspiring the individuals within the accounting department, in all of their functions and responsibilities.  This includes the development of each team member in his/her technical skills and accounting capabilities, as well as, the overall performance of the department.  The VP, Finance/Controller is responsible for the reasonable accuracy of the company’s accounting records and their presentation to internal and external stakeholders, development of trend analysis and comparisons with budget, plan and prior performance, and control of the overall accounting and treasury functions, which include all aspects of daily financial transactions, respective controls, and analysis/reporting.

Responsibilities:

  • Recruits, trains, coaches and inspires the accounting team to enhance their performance.
  • Acts as liaison with other senior management and other areas of the Company, professionally handling communication issues and financial/personal challenges.
  • Ensures accuracy of the company’s financial records including P&Ls, Balance Sheets, Cash Flow Statements, sub-ledgers, scorecards and trends analysis.
  • Ensures corporate compliance with all federal, state and local requirements for tax related filings, payments, and other reporting.
  • Acts as liaison with the external accounting firm to coordinate annual audits and tax return preparation.
  • Responsible for organizing, planning and executing the monthly closing process for the financial records of 2 divisions and holding company.
  • Ensures the accuracy and completeness of all inter-company transactions in the associated general ledger(s).
  • Preparation of monthly financial statements and analysis for CEO and other stakeholders.
  • Prepares various monthly, quarterly and annual reports on the company’s performance.
  • Reviews and updates (periodically) the company’s financial internal controls
  • Acts as an integral member of the company’s senior management team in creating, analyzing and reporting on the annual budget.
  • Responsible for the GL, AP, AR, Inventory and other financial related modules of the company’s accounting software systems (currently PSDS and Cloud McLeod).
  • Assists with planning and implementing changes in the accounting system including maintenance of the company’s chart of accounts.
  • Ensure the systems and processes in place are being utilized as efficiently and effectively as possible.
  • Works with insurance brokers for general and group insurance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and agreed upon.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

Senior Accountant/Financial Analyst, Accounts Payable/Payroll, Billing, Accounts Receivable/Collections, and dotted-line Human Resources

Education and/or Experience:

  • Four-year college or university degree in accounting required
  • Licensed CPA or Master’s Degree is highly desirable
  • Must have 7-10+ years of relevant experience in the field of accounting
  • Must have 3+ years in a senior management capacity
  • High degree of technical expertise in accounting, financial and treasury management; including a strong knowledge of US GAAP.
  • Advanced Excel, PowerPoint, and Word skills
  • Ability to learn proprietary software
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, strong financial reporting and accounting skills,
  • Vision to see the big picture, anticipate business issues and be hands-on, creative, self-starter that is results-oriented and dependable
