TAX MANAGER for The Hultquist Firm in Greenville, South Carolina 

Smart Work | Network, Inc., a retained search firm, is seeking candidates for our client,  The Hultquist Firm, headquartered in Greenville, SC, for the position titled Tax Manager.  This position requires the Tax Manager to live in or close to Greenville, SC.

They give their clients the expertise and experience of larger accounting firms, along with the proactive, intimate attention they can only get with a dedicated financial partner. The mission sounds simple but requires a tax professional with an entrepreneurial interest working collaboratively year round and not just intensely from January through April.

As The Hultquist Firm Tax Manager, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Join an entrepreneurial CPA team that has experienced significant year over year growth, providing business consultation, accounting services and income tax compliance to hundreds of clients.   
  • Grow and lead the Tax Preparation and Planning side of the firm's group to enhance their strategic partnering capabilities and add more value to corporate, fiduciary, and individual clients.
  • Foster a culture of going beyond simply preparing tax returns year in and year out by constantly looking forward and correctly advising clients on best methods to structure transactions and becoming an integral part of the client’s team in reducing future taxes.
  • Work in an entrepreneurial environment with a highly motivated team of professionals who continuously demonstrate a passion for helping their clients by anticipating their needs and providing valuable financial management information year round to enhance their financial performance.
  • Be a trusted advisor in the full sense of the words, incorporating relationship and account management into a tax team leadership position.

 

Key Job Responsibilities  

  • Manage a small team of tax professionals to effectively and efficiently build superior client relationships, with a strong emphasis on business taxes as well as individual taxes
  • Supervise, prepare, review and sign corporate, fiduciary and individual income taxes
  • Prepare complex client tax returns, research comparable tax issues and strategies to recommend suitable options for client considerations
  • Provide leadership to the team exemplifying outstanding client engagement, serving clients in a high impact manner and exceeding their expectations
  • Support clients and team members with stellar relationship and communication skills
  • Develop the team with streamlined process and procedures in order to successfully accommodate a growing clientele

Required (Must-Have) Experience:

  • Current CPA license with regional and/or national firm experience
  • 4 or more years of experience serving in a tax role in a public accounting and/or professional services firm
  • Prior team management experience combined with strong client relationship management
  • Prior experience handling corporate, partnership, fiduciary and individual tax returns, including start ups and entrepreneurial ventures
  • Previous experience efficiently researching complex, multi-state tax issues
  • Demonstrated ability to work within given deadlines and meet (often exceed) customer expectations
  • Strong interpersonal skills such as listening, relationship building, appropriate conflict management
  • Demonstrated integrity, dependability, attention to detail and customer orientation
  • Previous experience leading a team of tax professionals and developing subordinates through development, enhanced responsibilities and coaching
  • Demonstrated success in maintaining confidentiality when dealing with private or sensitive information

Nice to Have Experience:

  • Large/regional firm experience as well as small firm experience

 

Physical/Conditional Requirements: (Travel, etc.)

  • Willing and able to perform in a flexible work schedule, especially during peak tax deadline periods
  • Willing and able to attend professional, civic and social events afterhours on occasion
