· Service to Civilian is recruiting for the position of Dental Assistant.  This position will be part of a successful and growing dental practice in Laurens, SC. In this critical role, the Dental Assistant will be responsible for assisting the Doctors in the clinical treatment of patients.  

 · Escort to/from and seat patients in treatment rooms. Obtain, update and review health histories according to office protocol. Ensure patients are always attended, inform them of delays and ensure questions are answered thoroughly. Give patient post-operative instructions and demonstrate when necessary.

 · Chart patients and record date, service rendered and any charges. Ensure proper treatment notes are recorded in patient’s chart.

 · Set up treatment rooms for procedures.  Perform clinical procedures as practice act allows and as directed by the Doctor.  Mix dental materials. Anticipate and assist Doctor’s needs and perform expanded functions and other tasks as assigned.

 · Monitor average time used for specific procedures.  Monitor patient flow.  Notify Doctor if a patient should be called in the evening after a difficult appointment.

 · Securely store and handle patient records.  Accurately file patient information.

· Keep dental units ready, stocked and clean. Oversee cleanliness of the treatment room according to sterilization procedures. Sterilize all instruments and handpieces according to OSHA regulations.  Keep trays, instruments and treatment room drawers organized.

· Promptly send out and monitor all dental laboratory cases.  Follow laboratory procedures according to office protocol.

· Implement the preventative maintenance/cleaning schedule for dental equipment.  Maintain dental office emergency kits and nitrous and oxygen tanks.

Training and Experience

 · High School Diploma or equivalent; some college preferred.

 · Graduate of accredited dental assisting program or dental assisting experience preferred.

· Compliance with state dental practice requirements (i.e. X-ray requirements, OSHA training).

· Commitment to CE for career development.

· Good interpersonal skills and excellent verbal skills.

Other Essential Functions

Legible handwriting for notations in patient chart.  Arrange patient charts and radiographs for next day’s appointments.

Maintain telephone certification with the Scheduling Institute to remain eligible for monthly bonuses.

Ensure treatment rooms are stocked at all times. Monitor inventory and inform Supply Coordinator to order supplies as needed.
