Senior Technical Engineer – Yokohama Tire

 

Our client, Yokohama Corporation of North American, is seeking a Senior Technical Engineer to provide engineering knowledge and expertise to the Technical Services department.  The position is located in Akron, Ohio with the opportunity to travel throughout the United States as a field engineer.  It requires knowledge, experience and aptitude to fully initiate and complete technical assignments that focus on product performance and customer service for products that Yokohama sells in North America.  Although management of others is not a requirement, the position does have oversight/mentoring of several junior technical engineers.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Conduct technically valid field investigations, communicate results effectively to all parties and coordinate follow-up
  • Provide technical training to field sales staff and customers
  • Participate in design and creation of training materials that increase brand value and customers‘ effectiveness in use of Yokohama products
  • Organize training sessions and work with vendors to cover material needed for training programs
  • Utilize hardware/software solutions as needed to accomplish engineering objectives, and provide support for internal and external customers
  • Provide the proper reporting documentation and provide presentation material for tracking, discussion and review
  • Identify opportunities for effective vendor involvement and coordinate activities to accomplish goals within predetermined timing & resource limits
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to junior technical engineers
  • Complete other tasks as required by Technical Services Management

 

Skills and Experience Required

 

  • BS degree in Engineering, Science or Technology
  • 10 years of tire industry experience with intimate product knowledge. (Could be in sales, service or other types of roles other than pure engineering in tire industry)
  • Demonstrate mastery of technical information in order to provide technical support to internal staff and customers.
  • Mechanical aptitude, detail oriented, self-motivated, disciplined, organized, strong verbal and written communication, strong computer aptitude
  • Ability and desire to travel up to 50% of the time
  • Proficiency in use of engineering tools and software, conducting data analysis and creating technical reports
  • Able to handle heavy tires, tire and wheel assemblies, engineering tools and equipment
  • Success in handling service requests with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Prior success in educating others in product or service technical subjects
