Product Development/Applications Engineer – Engineered Surfacing Technology

Great Opportunity for an experienced mechanical engineer looking to get 'steeped' in new technology that was named "One of seven technologies that will change the way you manufacture" by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. This revolutionary approach to engineering surfaces is creating a step change in product design in all types of industries, markets and applications from medical devices to plumbing and from energy production to air and sea transportation.


The position reports to the R&D Manager and as a representative of the company’s R&D group, the successful candidate will apply their cumulative knowledge of manufacturing molds, dyes and other tools with surface modifications through their interaction with the company’s customers’ engineering staffs to identify applications for the patented technology. Knowledge of or experience in manufacturing the following would be helpful: Medical devices; Coated Wire and Cable; Tubing, Pipe and Hose Manufacturers; and/ or a variety of other extruded products.

 

The right candidate for this position will have 7 or more years’ experience with mechanical engineering calculations such as Volume, Load, Surface Areas, Pressure, etc. as well as demonstrated competence in writing and delivering successful product development proposals in any of the industry sectors similar to or mentioned above.

Specific Responsibilities

  Learn the patented technology and understand the value proposition sufficiently to provide suggested applications to company customers.  Leverage the patented technology with customers’ engineering and R&D staffs by phone and in person to identify opportunities for customers’ product development.

  Demonstrate to customers how they can develop new surface features for their products, radically improving their products’ competitive edge 

  Write proposals spelling out these opportunities with specifications to encourage acceptance and approval of prototype and/or pilot line experiments to prove out theories

  Presenting proposals and answering technical questions posed by clients for piloting or prototyping to earn their approval
